Sadly, this is the reality for many people in Tanzania, where churches and sanctuaries are scarce. But together, we can change that. It will be a place where people can find hope in times of despair, comfort in times of grief, and joy in times of celebration. god's vision for the people of bagamoyo, tanzania:
We are The Door Christian Church of Katy, Texas. As a local church with a worldwide vision, we are committed to changing lives, making disciples, and reaching the world for Jesus Christ! We take the gospel out into our community through personal evangelism and outreaches. We train and equip disciples within the local church setting and, as a result, couples are raised up and released into the harvest field to spread His Word and plant brand new congregations. Our mission as believers, and as the local church, is to pray, train, invest, send, and support workers to go into all the world!
Following this ideal, Pastor Curtis and Mary Carter were disciples, trained and serving in our local church, before launching internationally into Bagamoyo, Tanzania. The Carters were faithful members at The Door Church in Katy where, among other roles, they headed our community outreaches and conducted a weekly bible study out of their home. Very early on, God began to deal with them to extend their reach for Him into the village of Bagamoyo, Tanzania. This place is deeply rooted in depression and witchcraft and sorely in need of the gospel. So, on February 13, 2022, they said farewell to their family, and the Katy congregation, and made their way across the world to share the gospel with the people of Tanzania. Since then, they have gone out into every village and street;, converted a rental building into a sanctuary for church meetings; welcomed dedicated congregants, and led many to Christ! There have been hardships along the way, but the Lord remains faithful to this new branch of believers in East Africa.
With God on the move, it is now time for the next phase of the far bigger plan: to buy land and erect a church building. While the gospel is prolific in Tanzania, there isn’t an established “home base” in the community where Pastor Curtis and Mary are ministering. Church plants have come and gone frequently there, so the local Christians are struggling to find a place they can call home. Through this property drive, we will declare that the gospel is there to stay! Through this effort, the land and building will be dedicated to God and pledged to the community. The local church will always have a home where they can come together in worship and praise. It’s not just about the building, however, but the church body itself that meets there. This local body will establish deep and long-lasting values for the community; and a church founded on, and spreading forth the Gospel. This church establishment intends to be there indefinitely. The money you contribute will go towards solving a bigger problem than just a fancy building, instead, it will establish a solid foundation for the people. Our vision is much bigger than the building itself, it is a hope and a future for the Gospel.
The plot of land slated for The Door Church in Bagamoyo is right off the main highway. In fact, it is located on the only road leading from the village of Bagamoyo to the closest major city, Dar es Salaam. This road is a major artery which is constantly traveled by all who live there. The cost of the land is $13,000. We would love to bless the community of Bagamoyo, the people of the church there, and the future generations to come, with this purchase and investment.
